Abstract:
Teddy leads the Occultation Group at the University of Virginia, an asteroid research group which investigates minor planets through the shadows they cast when passing in front of distant stars. These shadows can be predicted with great accuracy, and by deploying multiple telescopes over vast geographical regions one can reconstruct incredibly detailed maps of asteroid profiles, revealing mountains, canyons, and even moons. Teddy presented this topic last November; this is an update. -
CV:
Teddy is a 4th year student studying astrophysics at the University of Virginia. His primary realm of research regards massive star formation. Teddy spends most of his evenings tinkering with telescopes in garages and fields to gather as much information as possible on the millions of asteroids and minor planets in the Solar System. He and his Occultation Group at UVA won the Planetary Society Shoemaker Award in 2025.
Teddy is a member of CAS and holds the elected “Officer” position of Secretary.
